Why does your business need a responsive website – and what is that anyway?
In this supremely digital age, your website is the hub of your social and online activity, but is it responsive?...does it matter if it is?....and what does that even mean?
Glad you asked....
Responsive websites can also be known as mobile friendly or adaptive designed sites. They are built to be able to restructure or reorganise themselves depending on the type of device that someone is using to view your website – eg: desktop computer, smartphone or tablet such as an iPad.
Put simply, the site adjusts itself to work on different sized screens.
If your site isn’t responsive, it may appear very small on the screen of a smart phone, making it very hard for the user to navigate.
In January 2015 smartinsights.com reported that 80% of internet users own a smartphone and use it to search the web, and 47% use a tablet. Hubspot.com reports that over 20% of Google searches are performed on a mobile device and ‘61% have a better opinion of brands when they offer a good mobile experience’. Along with this, 25.85% of all emails are opened on mobile phones, and 10.16% on tablets.
According to Google’s Think Insights on mobile, if a potential customer lands on your website via a mobile device and finds it frustrating, hard to read, slow or difficult to navigate, there is a 61% chance they will leave immediately and look elsewhere for what they are after. On the flip side, if they land on your website and have a positive experience, they are 67% more likely to buy a product or service^.
If your business is using social media and your website is not responsive, you may be missing out on business -big time. 55% of all social media consumption happens on mobile devices.
Responsive website tend to take less time to load on your mobile device as opposed to a desktop website, which is an advantage in a world when we want it all and we want it now.
Into the future the options for accessing the web will only increase with the advent of smart watches, Google Glass, smart televisions etc. so it is vital that your core digital presence is built to respond and adapt to ensure your site is still a positive and powerful reflection of your business.
